Why this course?
Perception skills are the foundation for developing smart players. Consistent, high-quality decision-making is impossible without first scanning the situation and gathering as much information as possible before acting.
At Ekkono, we have emphasized perception from the very beginning, making it one of the four pillars of our method: Game, Perception, Questions, Concepts. In this course, we will teach you the key perception concepts that should be trained with players from the earliest stages of development through to adulthood.
Perception is not only about turning your head or having a good body orientation. It is also HOW to look, WHEN to look and WHAT to look for.
This course will explore these concepts in detail for both the offensive and defensive phases of the game, while also dividing them by age group so you know when to introduce each concept to your players.
We will combine theory with numerous examples of Ekkono training exercises that you can apply directly with your team to enhance their perception skills.
By the end of the course, you will have a clear understanding of the most important perception concepts and how to teach them effectively, helping your players become smarter and more complete footballers.
What will you learn?
In this course, you will gain a complete understanding of how to train perception in football, learning both the theoretical foundations and the practical tools to apply directly with your players.
You will discover the key principles of perception: how to look, when to look, and what to look for, and how these elements influence decision-making in both the offensive and defensive phases of the game.
The course will show you how perception evolves across different stages of player development, from early initiation through to specialization. You will understand which concepts to introduce at each age, ensuring that your players progress step by step. From mastering the basics of identifying their direct opponent, to scanning for spaces, teammates, passing lanes, and defensive imbalances.
You will also learn how defensive perception plays a crucial role in identifying opponents, adjusting positions, and maintaining balance within the team’s structure.
To help you apply these ideas, we will provide numerous practical examples, including training exercises, match situations, and video analyses. Each block will be supported with progressive exercise sequences designed to move from simple to more complex game-related contexts, allowing you to integrate perception training into your sessions effectively.
By the end of the course, you will not only know what to teach but also how and when to teach it, giving you a clear roadmap to develop perceptive, intelligent, and tactically aware players.
